Testing Application: Testing difference cell formats at low temperatures
A leading military and defense contractor required a specialized solution to rigorously test a variety of battery cell formats under extreme low-temperature conditions. For military applications, the unwavering performance of batteries is non-negotiable, as they power critical equipment ranging from communication devices and surveillance systems to soldier-worn gear and autonomous vehicles. Operations in arctic or high-altitude environments expose batteries to severe cold, which can significantly degrade their performance, capacity, and reliability, potentially jeopardizing mission success and personnel safety. The contractor needed a test chamber capable of not only simulating these harsh conditions accurately but also facilitating seamless integration with their battery cycler.
Associated Environmental Systems built its first-ever SD-208-ATP—a specialized version of the standard SD-208 benchtop chamber. Building off of our standard SD-508-ATP, which is designed for ports on the back vital for battery testing.
The customer received a chamber purpose-built for their unique testing environment. The SD-208-ATP allows for efficient testing of different battery chemistries at low temperatures.
This project marks an exciting milestone for AES as we continue expanding our chamber capabilities to meet the growing demands of the battery testing industry—across both commercial and defense sectors.
