Testing Application: Environmental Simulation for Space Hardware Components

A global leader in aerospace & defense technology industry approached Associated Environmental Systems (AES) in need of a specialized, high-performance test chamber to validate the environmental durability of satellite hardware components. The challenge? The client required a solution capable of maintaining a Class 1000 cleanroom environment while simulating extreme space conditions, including cooling and precise moisture control for heavy, sensitive hardware.

The AES Solution

AES engineered the FD-280-4 Temperature Only Environmental Test Chamber, a high-performance 80 cu ft floor model chamber built to meet the unique demands of aerospace hardware validation.

  • Integrated HEPA Filtration: To meet Class 1000 cleanroom requirements, the chamber features a specialized H14 HEPA filter (12" x 36") to ensure clean air circulation throughout the 80 cu. ft. workspace without compromising thermal performance.
  • Extreme Thermal Range & Rapid Cycling: The system utilizes a cascade refrigeration system and LN2 gas supply to achieve a wide temperature range of -70°C to 180°C, supporting an IEC rise rate of 4.75°C/minute for rigorous thermal stress testing.
  • AESONE CONNECT® Interface: This software integration provides a customizable dashboard for remote monitoring and data logging, paired with a Watlow F4T controller and product-sensing thermocouples for precise device-under-test (DUT) tracking.
  • Custom Heavy-Duty Loading: The chamber includes a custom, full-extension stainless steel shelf rated for 350 lbs and specialized GN2 purge systems with humidity sensors to achieve below 5% RH, ensuring the safety of moisture-sensitive electronics.

Crafting Your Perfect Test Set-Up

This solution was custom-engineered to meet aerospace testing demands. By combining extreme temperature capabilities, advanced air filtration, and heavy-duty structural integration, AES delivered a system that seamlessly accelerates development cycles and ensures satellite component reliability under real-world space conditions. This project highlights AES’s commitment to designing advanced, customized test solutions that help engineers push boundaries—supporting innovation in the aerospace sector and beyond.
