Testing Application: Large-Format Prismatic Battery Cell Testing
A prominent organization in the research laboratory sector approached Associated Environmental Systems (AES) in need of a high-performance, safe benchtop environmental test system to conduct thermal and electrical characterization on large-format prismatic battery cells.
The challenge? The client required a compact, benchtop-friendly workspace that could handle the rigorous thermal demands of battery cell cycling while addressing critical safety risks—such as hazardous off-gassing and thermal runaways—and integrating seamlessly with high-current cycler hardware and nitrogen purge systems.
The AES Solution
AES engineered the SC-512-4-SAFE Temperature Only Battery Test Chamber System, a benchtop environmental testing solution paired with our patented ATPHEAVY prismatic battery testing fixture.
-
ATPHEAVY Prismatic All Test Platform: Features 2 shelves with 8 total pneumatic lifts that raise cell terminals to make contact with air-cooled, gold-plated bus bars, enabling up to 500 A continuous and 1000 A pulse testing for large-format prismatic cells across a -20°C to 80°C range.
-
Controlled Thermal Performance: Delivers a wide temperature range of -37°C to 180°C (-34.6°F to 356°F) with an IEC pull-down rate of 5°C/min and temperature stability of ±0.5°C, ensuring precise, repeatable environmental exposure.
-
Advanced Safety & Gas Sensing Suite: Outfitted with a Battery Safety Triple Gas Sensor array (O₂, H₂, CO₂) featuring auto-purge/flush capabilities, a graphite burst disc with rupture sensor, and low relative humidity control maintaining 5% RH or lower via continuous nitrogen purge.
-
AESONE CONNECT® & Cycler Integration: Includes a 4.3-inch touchscreen controller, HTTP JSON API over Ethernet, and a dedicated ATP/Cycler Interface Panel for complete remote monitoring, automated logging, and synchronized test control.
