Cascade Walk in Room
Industry: Telecommunications
Testing Application: Environmental Stress Testing for 5G Radio Infrastructure
A leading telecommunications hardware innovator approached Associated Environmental Systems (AES) in need of a specialized walk-in environmental test chamber to validate the structural and operational performance of next-generation 5G radio hardware. The challenge? The unit required a custom footprint to fit strict warehouse spatial constraints and budget limits while maintaining the capacity to dissipate a continuous 500W live heat load at -40°C with rapid thermal transition capabilities.
The AES Solution
AES engineered a WR-264 Walk-In Environmental Test Chamber, a high-performance system built to meet the unique demands of the application.
-
Optimized Workspace & Accessibility: Features internal dimensions of 88" W x 52" D x 100" H with a wide 60" W x 84" H door opening, heated window, and entry ramp to allow effortless loading and positioning of heavy equipment within limited floor space.
-
Air-Cooled Cascade Thermal System: Powered by a Roll-Up Machine Pack Module with dual 7.5HP air-cooled compressors, delivering temperatures from -65°C to 85°C and a fast 1.75°C/min ramp rate while dissipating a continuous 500W DUT live load at -40°C.
-
AESONE CONNECT® Controls: Integrates a Watlow F4T touchscreen controller and AESONE CONNECT® software, enabling web-based remote control, MODBUS TCP, and custom JSON API endpoints for automated read/write testing capabilities.
-
Custom Heavy-Duty Build & Access Ports: Constructed with a 304 stainless steel interior, a reinforced floor rated for uniform loads up to 600 lbs/sq ft, and two 6" access ports with plugs for custom cabling and monitoring.
Crafting Your Perfect Test Set-Up
This solution was custom-engineered to meet telecommunications testing demands in validating high-power 5G hardware under extreme ambient swings within tight spatial and budgetary constraints. By combining high-performance cascade air-cooling, custom structural accessibility, and intuitive digital controls, AES delivered a system that seamlessly accelerates development cycles and ensures product reliability under real-world conditions. This project highlights AES’s commitment to designing advanced, customized test solutions that help engineers push boundaries—supporting innovation in the telecommunications sector and beyond.
